January 2020 - Window Into Caching

Like many of you, scheduling my life renews each year with some serious thought about caching.  I plan out adventures, family time, reunions, visiting friends and general travel throughout the year.  While caching isn't always in perfect weather or with perfect views, it is almost always a perfectly good time getting back to my roots and back to the embrace of nature.  Despite the DNFs, the rocky weather on occasion, injuries and unexpected adventure side-treks I will look back on my year just before the holidays and start looking for pictures for my holiday card.  Inevitably, the vast majority of all my best photos are of being with family and friends on the trail while caching.  My favorite caching picture ever is a simple casual pic of my wife and son with me caching on a bike trail.  It's pouring down rain, we're all soaked, it's cold and windy, we're tired and hungry, and we're smiling insanely like idiots with no regrets because we love this crazy adventure!  It obviously went to a priority spot on our holiday card.

While contemplating what to do for this year's January Functional GCC coin I was looking back at pictures for inspiration when it struck me... why not make a coin that highlights the very best of our caching moments?  A coin that would be a window into our lives and the adventures we've enjoyed was a must!  Every one of these coins is potentially a look into the life of a fellow cacher.  This is your chance to capture that moment and keep it with you or send it out into the world to be shared.  This 2-part coin has a convenient loop built in so it can be attached to a key fob or even be embellished with an ornament hook to be hung for the holidays!  New to caching and nothing to show yet?  No worries, just flip the insert around to display a classic shot of cachers on the trail or use the obverse with a simple mantra by the infamous adventurer, novelist and poet Jack Kerouac to "Live, travel, adventure, bless and don't be sorry!"
