"Since the summer of 2006, I've had the privilege to design First to Find geocoins with the Geocoin Club. Over the last 16 years, I've added three more designs to that very first almost 16 years back. As we get back into the summer caching season, I've been excited at the prospect of adding a 5th coin to the series. As the weather begins to warm, a continuous flow of new cache publishing alerts pings in my inbox, urging us to get out there and be the first to find a well-placed cache. It's a constant source of excitement that makes for sleepless nights, sunrise hikes, late night hunts after long days of work, or extended lunch breaks (when opportunity permits). It's an impossible to ignore sirens call.
Just what is it that drives someone to drop everything to be the first to make that find? Every cache is unique so it's always a first experience, but there's just something about being the one who discovers a hidden gem for the first time. Seeing that logbook with a crisp freshness that's never seen the stroke of finder's pen. For just that moment you are Unum Solum, the genesis, the king or queen of that particular cache experience. Many more will find it, but when it comes to the FTF, "there can be only one!" Maybe you'll be the one to leave it as a prize, maybe you'll be the one to set it loose to travel, but maybe, just maybe you'll be the First to Find it in a cache!"
