March 2024 - The Great Frontier

When I think about geocaching, I typically think of trails through the forest, climbing mountain ridges, or walks along shorelines. With 99.9% of geocaches located on terra firma, but roughly three quarters of the planet is under water, it occurs to me that we're leaving a huge space for placing caches that is just begging to be put to use. We're slowly run out of places for caches in the usual places, but we've left the lion's share of space almost untouched. The Great Frontier of the world's lakes, streams, rivers, oceans, seas and ponds are just waiting for clever cachers to bring the level of challenge and fun up a notch or two!
How many incredible waterfalls, hidden oasis, lakes, forest ponds, artesian wells, or bubbling brooks do we walk right by and never consider for an incredible hiding spot? Sure, we might have to rethink how to retrieve a cache or sign a submersible log, but oh the possibilities! While we're still pondering the most basic ideas for hiding some new, clever aquatic caches, a few clever cachers are out there already leading the way. With so much to see, so much to explore, and so much opportunity for expansion, this game has so much potential yet to grow. Will you rise to the challenge? Wait... or is that sink... or dive? Well, however we term it, just how challenging would it be to explore the biggest wilderness on the planet by submerging yourself in the hunt underwater? I can't wait to see what comes next as we begin to explore the Great Frontier.
