At any time of year, but particularly when the weather is rough, the temperatures dip, and days are short, it can be tough to keep up our time on the trails out geocaching. I hear people constantly mention lack of time, energy, motivation, or willingness to make a real effort to get off the couch, put on some warm gear and head out into the wild. Unfortunately, I'm one of them. We get busy with holidays, have neglected some housework, or we're getting back on track at work and school after a bit of time off so it can be easy to procrastinate.
Then something wonderful starts to happen as the days begin to lengthen again. We start feeling an itch in our feet to be outside. It can still be an act of sheer willpower to begin making a real effort though. This month's coin is a bit of a Spring Cleaning for the soul and a reminder that the hardest step is always the first step. But then you're moving and it's just a little bit easier to make the next step. The next is a bit easier still and before you know it, you're caching again. Maybe it starts with just cleaning up the old swag bag, hydration bags, or hiking clothes. A small step for sure, but it has to start somewhere. Maybe spend a little time checking up on some caches for maintenance. Each step is a little easier than the last.
This is a great coin to keep in your pocket and spin-fidget with from time to time as a reminder that each step, though small, perpetuates a momentum that can carry you through until you find yourself back on the trail. There are adventures awaiting us, if we can just summon the impetus to take the first step!
