August 2025 - Innovation
Design notes from the artist: Chris Mackey
I've been working and doing a lot of research for the past 239 designs and I'm actually a little stunned by everything we've accomplished. You guys did some stuff 15 years ago that I'm just starting to get into now!
On the one side, we have the first 10 years of breakthroughs and on the observe the second decade of breakthroughs...
Side A:
Starting with the subscription coin service,
Introduction of translucents
Intro of multi-piece coin that includes the new pathtag product
First spincast geocoin
LED name tag (first led or led club-coin???)
Film container topper that merged caches and coins functionally for the first time
Letterbox stamp coin (never saw that before or after)
Bottle opener coin
Multi-national coin where we procurred feldspar in norway and sent it to china with a US design to be inserted into the coin
Yo-yo coin
Side B:
- Spinners and crystals coin
- functional optical compass
- FTF counter tool
Microbite tool for bisons
Wearable geocoin bracelet
Customizable picture frame coin
Zipper pull coin for winter caching
Skull bit swagbag cincher
Tri-pod cook tool coin with chain
3 piece puzzle coin (360 degree squared) coin set
Side A hosts the GCC logo and the roman numeral 20 surrounded in 3d flourishes and royal purple on gold.
Side B hosts the original shield-and-pillars Reale or Piece-of-Eight (doubloon) sporting the three-part crest of Direct Mint, Club, and Pathtags crowned with the iconic cent symbol tracking icon that started it all.
Both sides sport a border with words describing goals of the coins throughout the years to educate, entertain, and elevate coins into something more than just "pretty".
And as always, both sides could arguably be the "front" in our ever present goal to build coins that do more than the minimum ;)
